Following their triumphant campaign in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Team India players continue to bask in the adoration of the nation. The Men in Blue clinched their first ICC trophy in dramatic fashion, defeating South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final in Barbados. This victory marked India’s return to the top after a 17-year gap.
Since their return to India, the celebrations have been non-stop. The team faced delays due to Hurricane Beryl but was greeted with unparalleled enthusiasm upon their arrival in New Delhi. They were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence before heading to Mumbai, where they were welcomed with a grand parade from Marine Drive to the Wankhede Stadium. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) honored the team at the stadium, presenting them with a prize of Rs 125 crore.
The festivities continued as players received hero’s welcomes in their hometowns, and most recently, the owners of Mumbai Indians, the Ambani family, joined in the celebrations. At Anant and Radhika’s sangeet ceremony in Mumbai, Ambanis felicitated Captain Hardik Pandya, former captain Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav. The event was filled with joyous moments as guests and players alike reveled in the jubilant atmosphere.
Mumbai’s cricket stars were honored by the Chief Minister:
Previously, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde extended felicitations to Mumbai-based players. Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal were invited to the CM’s official residence and later visited the Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan complex as part of the honors.
“It was a solid team effort. Surya just told everyone that the ball landed in his hand luckily. Had it not landed, I would have made him sat in the next match,” Rohit had said after the felicitation ceremony.
