New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips showcased his fielding prowess once more with a stunning save during a Lanka Premier League 2024 match for Colombo Strikers against Dambulla Sixers on Sunday (July 7). Known for his acrobatic abilities, the 27-year-old prevented a certain six when he dove full-length at deep mid-wicket to catch the ball with his left hand.
Despite not completing the catch due to momentum carrying him towards the boundary, Phillips managed to prevent five crucial runs for his team.

In the recent match, Dambulla Sixers secured their first victory of the season by defeating Colombo Strikers by eight wickets. Previously winless with three losses, the Sixers turned their campaign around with this win.
Batting first, Colombo Strikers posted 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Glenn Phillips showcasing his batting skills by top-scoring with 52 runs off 32 deliveries. Despite Phillips’ efforts, the Strikers couldn’t defend their total as Reeza Hendricks (54) and Kusal Perera (80) guided the Sixers to a convincing victory.
“Overall team performance today. We discussed in the team meetings as a bowling group we have to give less boundaries. Last game we gave 12 or 14 boundaries which was too much. In the middle we did really well with both spinners and fast bowlers, took wickets and we restricted them.
“Tried to take it away from the batters, varied the pace and did not try to bowl stump to stump. It is easy to hit from the stumps and not when you bowl it away from off stump. That was my plan and that’s why I was successful,” said Sixers captain Thisara Perera after the game.
