Team India celebrated their T20 World Cup 2024 victory in Mumbai on Thursday, July 4th, with an exuberant display of joy alongside their fans. The BCCI orchestrated an open bus triumph procession along Marine Drive, a spectacle that drew hundreds of thousands of passionate Indian cricket enthusiasts. This event followed the return of the victorious squad from Barbados, where they clinched a thrilling seven-run triumph over South Africa in the final on June 29th.
Among the memorable moments of the celebration, a heartwarming video has gone viral, capturing a candid exchange between cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. In the video, Kohli can be seen inviting Sharma to join him at the front of the bus, urging him to pose proudly with the T20 World Cup trophy. Shared initially by the Mumbai Indians’ official handle on Wednesday, the clip quickly garnered widespread attention across the internet, epitomizing the camaraderie and spirit that defined Team India’s victorious campaign.
During India’s triumphant celebration following their T20 World Cup final victory, Rohit Sharma initially took a back seat before Virat Kohli called him forward for a memorable photo with the trophy.
Kohli, who had faced challenges in scoring big runs earlier in the T20 World Cup 2024, rediscovered his form in the final, delivering a pivotal innings of 76 runs from 59 balls for the Men in Blue. His commanding performance helped India set a competitive total of 176 runs, ultimately proving decisive in their victory. For his exceptional batting display in the tournament’s most crucial match, Kohli was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match accolade.
Following his achievement as only the second batter to secure all three ICC white-ball trophies, Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 Internationals, concluding his career as the format’s second-highest run scorer.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also confirmed his retirement from T20Is after India’s championship triumph. The 37-year-old right-handed batsman, who became the first Indian to win two T20 World Cup titles and the inaugural captain to lead a team to a T20 World Cup victory with a perfect record, stands as the leading run scorer in T20 Internationals and the second-highest run scorer in T20 World Cup history.
