Rohit Sharma and his team are reveling in their recent triumph at the 2024 T20 World Cup, marking their return to victory after a 17-year gap. India stood out as the dominant force in the T20I tournament, achieving a historic unbeaten run to secure the championship.
Central to their success was Jasprit Bumrah, whose crucial bowling performances turned the tide in critical moments, including the final against South Africa. Bumrah’s remarkable tally of 15 wickets throughout the tournament earned him the prestigious player-of-the-tournament award, highlighting his consistent impact.
According to Australian cricket legend Brett Lee, Bumrah currently holds the title of the world’s premier fast bowler across all formats, a testament to his exceptional skill and influence on the game.
“In my opinion, Jasprit Bumrah is simply exceptional. He is the best bowler in all formats right now and leads the attack,” Lee was quoted as saying by news agency IANS. “Bumrah can keep up an amazing pace while shaping the new ball away. His tournament performance demonstrated his leadership abilities, taking about 15 wickets with remarkable economy. He is absolutely exceptional, and India is deserving of praise for their accomplishments.”
Lee highlights the depth of India’s T20I squad, emphasizing their versatility with players adept at batting across all positions.
“Their batting order, which includes players who can dominate at every position from top to bottom, speaks volumes. Their middle-order is loaded with power and they have hitters who can put runs on the board quickly. ” said Lee.
Following their triumph at the World Cup, three stalwarts in Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja have opted to retire from T20Is, setting the stage for a new generation to step up. Leading this transition is a youthful T20I squad, captained by Shubman Gill, currently on tour in Zimbabwe for a five-match series.
As the team evolves, there are indications that Kohli and Rohit might be rested during the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka, slated for late July. India is scheduled to compete in three ODIs and as many T20Is during this series.
