Sanju Samson, reflecting on his pivotal role in India’s 42-run victory over Zimbabwe in the fifth T20I on July 14 in Harare, highlighted his partnership with Riyan Parag after India lost three early wickets.
He stressed the significance of building partnerships in setting a competitive total after a shaky start in the final game of the series, where he served as vice-captain.

He highlighted that their partnership for the fourth wicket played a crucial role in stabilizing the innings and setting a competitive total of 167/6 against Zimbabwe. Samson commended the Indian bowlers for their outstanding performance, which ultimately secured India’s victory by restricting Zimbabwe to 125 runs, clinching a 42-run win to conclude the tour on a high note.
Reflecting on the team’s success in the 2024 T20 World Cup, he attributed it to the supportive environment that encourages players to excel. Samson credited their camaraderie and teamwork for the 4-1 T20I series win in Zimbabwe.
Sanju Samson said in a video posted by the BCCI on X: “We had three wickets down, so it was very important for me to build a partnership with Riyan, which we did. And then I think we actually got into a reasonable total to fight the game, and our bowlers bowled really well.”

Samson further noted, “Honestly, I think you can’t teach them much. I think you can definitely be around them and stick with them, and whenever you make a relationship, that’s when people open up to you. So, it’s very important for me to behave in a manner where they come and ask me whenever they want to feel like it. So, it’s always like a brother kind of a relationship.”
