India is gearing up for a tour of Sri Lanka featuring both T20I and ODI series. The T20I leg will precede the ODIs, with three matches scheduled on July 27, 28, and 30 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. Notably, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed captain for the T20I series, despite the presence of former vice-captain Hardik Pandya in the squad.
As a result, Pandya will now play under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership, following his commendable performance as Rohit Sharma’s deputy during India’s successful campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Pandya’s pivotal role included delivering an exceptional over in the final against South Africa, defending 16 runs and clinching the trophy for India.
Surya and Pandya’s first T20I project is against Sri Lanka and they will leave no stone unturned to outplay the Sri Lankans. Notably, India lost their previous T20I series in Sri Lanka in 2021 and will look for an amazing victory this time. Below is Team India’s best playing 11 to crush Sri Lanka in the T20I series.
India T20 squad vs Sri Lanka: Suryakumar Yadav (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohd. Siraj.
Best India Playing 11 for Sri Lanka T20Is
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill will be free from leadership during the Sri Lanka T20I series and will focus on his role as opener. The right-handed batsman slammed the most 170 runs in 5 games in the previous T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal should be the other opener for Team India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka. He slammed a stunning 93-run knock in one game and finished as the 2nd highest run-getter in the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe.
Suryakumar Yadav (C)
Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of Team India in the India vs Sri Lanka T20I series and will lead the team in all the matches. The right-handed batsman played some match-winning knocks in the ICC T20I World Cup 2024 in June and will aim to replicate his batting as skipper this time.
Rishabh Pant (wk)
Considering Rishabh Pant’s recent outings in IPL 2024 and in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, he might be given the nod ahead of Sanju Samson in India’s playing 11 vs Sri Lanka.
Shivam Dube
After a spectacular show in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Shivam Dube will aim for a new journey in the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. Dube has shown a marvelous form this year and he is a powerful hitter in the playing 11.
Hardik Pandya
There is no doubt that the team has to play Hardik Pandya in every game in any ODI or T20I. Pandya gives the option for a lower-order batsman and also an extra seamer in the playing 11. He grabbed the limelight under Rohit Sharma and now he will look up to excel under the captainship of Surya.
Axar Patel
Axar Patel should be another spin all-rounder for the team in the T20I series. He will add depth to both bowling and batting. Patel can crush opposition batters by being a left-armer. He can also smack quickfire runs down the order.
Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is another spin all-rounder and he should be part of the playing 11 in the T20I series. He can smack runs in the death overs and also add variations since he is a right-arm spinner. He ended as the leading wicket-taker in the Zimbabwe series.
Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi should lead the spin attack as the right-arm spinner is a first-choice spinner for Team India in the T20Is. Bishnoi took a 4-wicket haul against Zimbabwe in the opening game and finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in the series.
Mohammed Siraj
Mohammed Siraj is the most experienced pacer for the team in the T20I series against Sri Lanka and will look for another amazing show after the recent T20I World Cup 2024. Siraj had a stunning record in Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup 2023 last year.
Arshdeep Singh
Arshdeep Singh impressed everyone with his lethal attack in T20 World Cup 2024; picking a 4-wicket haul in one match. He was the highest wicket-taker in the tournament at an average of just 12.65. The left-armer will now aim to crush Sri Lanka.
