Prior to departing for Sri Lanka to kick off a white-ball bilateral series, Gautam Gambhir, the newly-appointed head coach, and Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector, will hold a joint press conference in Mumbai on Monday. Team India, under their leadership, is slated to engage in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, commencing from July 27 in Pallekele.
Following the T20Is, the Indian squad, featuring stars like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, will shift gears to Colombo for a three-match ODI series against the hosts, starting on August 02.
As stated by the BCCI on Saturday, “a pre-departure press conference has been organised ahead of the team’s departure to Sri Lanka for the bilateral series.”

Suryakumar Yadav – the T20I captain
On Thursday, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the captain of India’s T20I team for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, set to begin on July 27. This announcement marks his succession of Rohit Sharma in the captaincy role, with Yadav chosen ahead of Hardik Pandya, who served as vice-captain during India’s victorious campaign in the West Indies and USA.
Notably, Suryakumar Yadav previously led India to a 4-1 series triumph over Australia in T20Is last November, followed by a 1-1 draw in South Africa. His leadership credentials extend to domestic cricket, where he captained Mumbai, as well as a stint leading the Mumbai Indians in a single IPL fixture.
