The next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) might witness significant shifts in team dynamics, as KL Rahul considers leaving the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the 2025 campaign.
As per a Dainik Jagran report, tensions have arisen between KL Rahul and the Lucknow-based franchise. A recent viral video showed franchise owner Sanjeev Goenka engaged in a heated discussion with Rahul, marking a turning point despite their earlier denials of any discord.
Rahul has captained LSG since their debut in 2022, achieving consecutive playoff appearances but falling short in crucial knockout matches. Their 2024 season, however, saw them at their lowest point with a seventh-place finish.
Sources indicate that Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are keen on bringing back their former opening batter. Nonetheless, whether LSG retains Rahul before the mega auction remains uncertain.
Hailing from Bangalore, Rahul has represented Karnataka in domestic cricket. He initially began his IPL journey with RCB in 2013 before moving to Sunrisers Hyderabad and eventually returning to RCB in 2016.
Considering RCB’s current skipper Faf du Plessis’ age of 40, the franchise might be eyeing Rahul as a potential long-term captain. Should RCB decide to transition from the former South African skipper, Rahul could seamlessly fill the role, offering an additional overseas player slot as well.
RCB secured a spot in the playoffs during the 2024 season but faced disappointment in the first eliminator, succumbing to the Rajasthan Royals by four wickets with six balls remaining.
With all teams set to participate in the upcoming mega-auctions, significant transformations are anticipated across franchises. This presents RCB with a prime opportunity to craft the ideal blend of players, aiming to clinch their inaugural title.
