Australia kicked off their campaign with a solid 39-run victory over Oman. Opting to bat first, Australia faced a challenging pitch and Oman’s resilient bowling attack. Despite losing key players like Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Glenn Maxwell early, David Warner anchored the innings with a steady 56 off 51 balls, forming a crucial partnership with Marcus Stoinis.
Stoinis showcased his aggressive batting style, smashing an unbeaten 67 off just 36 deliveries, including two fours and six sixes. Oman’s Mehran Khan claimed 2 wickets for 38 runs, while Kaleemullah and Bolal Khan each secured a wicket.
In pursuit of 165 runs, Oman struggled to find stability, losing wickets at regular intervals. Stoinis proved to be a formidable force with the ball as well, taking three wickets. Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, and Nathan Ellis contributed with two wickets each, limiting Oman to 125/9 in their 20 overs.
This defeat marked Oman’s second loss in the competition, with their next match against Scotland scheduled for Sunday. Meanwhile, Australia gears up for their upcoming clash against England on Saturday.
