Umar Akmal’s social media blunder on platform X has garnered widespread attention after he inadvertently misspelled KKR while extending his congratulations for their IPL 2024 victory.
Despite making a promising start on the international scene, Akmal’s performance dwindled, leading to his absence from competitive cricket since 2019.
In the wake of KKR’s third IPL triumph, Akmal penned a congratulatory message for the franchise on X, referencing Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir.
“Congratulations to KKL on winning the IPL third trophy”, he wrote in the post.
Given Akmal’s history of misspelling words, fans couldn’t resist poking fun at the Pakistani cricketer once again.
One of them wrote, “KKL to congratulations on IPL third winning trophy. Lord Umar.”
Another ensured that he mentioned the correct spelling to Umar Akmal. “It’s KKR not KKL…”
“Congratulations to IPL for winning 3rd KKR,” joked another.
Another wrote English, “Winning to third KKL conhrjulation trophy.”
For the unversed, Akmal has been trolled in the past for his hilarious mistakes on social media.
Lastt year Akmal wished Indian cricket star Virat Kohli on his 35th birthday.
The Pakistan cricketer shared pictures of himself, Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar while writing a caption that confused several users.
Akmal wrote, “Happy birthday brother Virat Kohli to King in India sir Sachin. Virat Kohli, BCCI.”
Akmal marked his debut with the national team back in 2009. Over his decade-long international career, the Lahore-born batsman amassed a total of 5,887 runs.
Despite a noteworthy performance representing his country, Akmal faced infamy when the Pakistan Cricket Board suspended him in February 2020. Reports suggested that he had violated their Anti-Corruption Code.
Following his admission of guilt for not reporting corrupt approaches, he was handed a three-year ban. Eventually, Pakistan’s Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced this ban to 12 months. However, he was still subjected to a fine of Rs 21.6 lakhs.
