Abhishek Sharma finally speaks out on Yuvraj Singh’s pivotal role in securing the WCL title with a thrilling victory over Pakistan champions in the final. Following India’s triumph, Abhishek Sharma, who has been mentored by Yuvraj Singh, extended his heartfelt congratulations to his mentor.
The decisive final match took place on Saturday, January 13, coinciding with India’s fourth T20I against Zimbabwe.
Abhishek Sharma showcased his prowess in the series, amassing 124 runs and claiming two wickets. Despite starting with a duck on his T20I debut, he rebounded impressively to notch his maiden T20I century. However, his subsequent performances yielded only 24 runs, rendering the series a mixed bag for the talented left-hander. A strategic change to position him at number three, following his initial opening role, proved unsuccessful.
The left-handed batsman earned his spot in the Indian squad on the back of a stellar IPL 2024 season, where he accumulated 484 runs across 16 innings at an impressive average of 32.26 and an astonishing strike rate of 204.21. His partnership with Travis Head was pivotal for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s journey to the final, although they fell short against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Both players were instrumental in reshaping T20 batting dynamics for their franchise during the season.
Following the series, Abhishek Sharma shared his reflections with broadcasters, emphasizing the team’s resilience after an initial T20I defeat. He expressed gratitude to his coach and captain for their faith in his abilities as an all-rounder.
“We all saw the actually four five of us saw the finals yesterday. It was like one of the moments. It’s always special when you’re playing against Pakistan and again it was the final. So, I think a big congratulations to my mentor (Yuvraj),” Abhishek told Sony Sports Network in a post-match interview.
