On Wednesday, Australian spinner Adam Zampa achieved a significant feat by claiming his 300th T20 wicket. This accomplishment places him as just the second Australian bowler to reach this milestone.
Zampa achieved this remarkable milestone while representing Australia in their ICC T20 World Cup Group Stage match against Oman in Barbados.
In the match, Zampa unleashed a devastating spell, claiming 2 wickets for 24 runs in four overs. Across his career spanning 258 T20 matches, Zampa has amassed an impressive tally of 301 wickets, maintaining an average of 22.64. His economy rate stands at 7.44, with a remarkable strike rate of 18.20. His standout performance includes a remarkable 6 wickets for 19 runs in a single match.
Among Australian players, Andrew Tye joins the 300-wicket club in T20 cricket, securing 332 wickets from 239 matches. Tye boasts an average of 21.15 and an economy rate of 8.21. His best bowling figures record at 5 wickets for 17 runs.
The leading wicket-takers in T20 cricket feature the likes of Dwayne Bravo from the West Indies, renowned for his prowess, Afghanistan’s spin sensation Rashid Khan, and the former West Indies all-rounder Sunil Narine.
Australia began the match batting after Oman won the toss. Initially struggling at 50/3, Australia managed to reach a total of 164/5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to impressive innings from Marcus Stoinis and David Warner, both scoring half-centuries.
Oman’s bowling was led by Mehran Khan, who performed exceptionally well.
In response, Oman’s batting lineup faced consistent setbacks, losing wickets regularly. Despite efforts from Ayaan Khan and Mehran, Oman could only muster 125/9 in their 20 overs, falling short by 39 runs.
Not only did Stoinis contribute significantly with the bat, but he also showcased his prowess with the ball, supported by Adam Zampa, Nathan Ellis, and Mitchell Starc, each claiming two wickets.
