Former Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad emphasized that no player, including Babar Azam, should be compared to Virat Kohli. Shehzad hailed Kohli as the ‘legend of our generation’ and credited him for India’s T20 World Cup victory, underscoring his pivotal role in the final where Kohli’s innings of 76 rescued India from a precarious position at 34 for 3.
Despite Kohli’s earlier struggles in the tournament, he stepped up when it mattered most, guiding India to a competitive total of 176 for 7. This innings not only secured the World Cup title for India but also marked Kohli’s return to form after a lean patch, highlighting his invaluable contribution to the team’s success.
Ahmed Shehzad – Virat Kohli is a legend of our generation
Ahmed Shehzad has showered accolades on Virat Kohli, describing him as a legendary figure in cricket. Addressing frequent comparisons between Kohli and Babar Azam, Shehzad dismissed them, asserting that no player should be juxtaposed with Kohli. Shehzad also commended Kohli’s deep passion for the game, highlighting his animated celebrations for every wicket during the T20 World Cup final.
“Virat Kohli is a legend of our generation. Every time he stepped on the field, he played the game with the same enthusiasm. Even in his last T20I, Virat was celebrating at long-on and long-off whenever a wicket fell. He did not score runs in the entire T20 World Cup, but when things are written in your destiny, you will get them.
“His innings in the final single-handedly turned the match in India’s favor. Without Virat Kohli’s performance, India wouldn’t have clinched the T20 World Cup. He’s building an exceptional legacy in T20Is. Indian Cricket faces a daunting task replacing him. Comparisons with Babar Azam or any other player are unwarranted,” Ahmed Shehzad remarked to reporters in Abu Dhabi.
Meanwhile, following the final, Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is. The right-handed batsman exits as the second-highest run-getter in the format and holds the record for the most runs scored in T20 World Cup history.
