Amit Mishra, the sidelined Indian international, has shed light on the intriguing saga involving the clash between new India head coach Gautam Gambhir and senior player Virat Kohli during the 2023 Indian Premier League season.
Mishra, a member of the LSG team at the time, witnessed the heated confrontation firsthand. Reflecting on the showdown between two titans of Indian cricket, Mishra hinted that it might have been more prudent for Kohli to take a step back instead of Gambhir.
Mishra told Shubhankar Mishra on the latterโs YouTube Podcast, โThat is the one good thing about Gautam. Virat Kohli did not go and approach him, but Gautam did if you look backโ.
According to the leg-spinner, Gambhir took the initiative to quell the feud and defuse the tension, demonstrating his maturity in contrast to Virat’s approach.
โHe went and asked if the wife and kids were alright. Gautam finished it not not Virat. Gautam is the one who showed his maturity there, but he should have gone first, saying, Gauti bhai, letโs end it here,โ he added.
It appears that the differences between the two have been set aside as they played for their franchise, and now they will collaborate as Gambhir prepares to assume the role of Head Coach for the Indian Cricket Team.
Gambhir’s tenure will commence during the Men in Blue’s upcoming away series against Sri Lanka scheduled for later this July. However, there is uncertainty surrounding Virat Kohli’s availability, despite reports indicating Gambhir’s preference for senior players to participate in the 50-over series.
Speculation suggests that Kohli might miss out on a break following his pivotal innings in the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa.
India’s away series is slated to kick off on July 27 and conclude on August 4. The T20I matches will be held at Pallekele, with the 50-over fixtures taking place in Colombo.
