Despite Russell’s impressive play, the London Spirit suffered a nine-wicket defeat to the Oval Invincibles at Kennington Oval in London on Sunday, August 11. The Spirit were dismissed for a mere 96 runs from 92 balls, and the Sam Billings-led Invincibles chased down the target with 37 balls to spare.

The dismissal occurred on the 18th delivery of the Oval Invincibles’ innings. London Spirit pacer Olly Stone delivered a full-length ball just outside off-stump, which Will Jacks attempted to hit for a big shot. Jacks misjudged the timing, sending the ball high into the air. Andre Russell sprinted towards deep mid-off and executed a spectacular catch.
The official X (formerly Twitter) account for The Hundred posted a video showcasing Andre Russell’s remarkable catch from the recent match. “23 metre dash for this catch 🤯 @Russell12A, take a bow!!! #TheHundred | 📍The Kia Oval,” wote the caption.
Andre Russell had a lackluster performance with the bat against the Oval Invincibles, managing only one run from six balls before falling to Adam Zampa. In total, he has accumulated 87 runs in seven matches, averaging 14.50 with a strike rate of 145.00, and his highest score remains an unbeaten 37 runs.
They Put Us Under The Pump – Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa commended his team for their resilience in turning the game around after a difficult start. He emphasized that regaining control during the middle overs was crucial. Zampa also underscored the significance of securing victory to solidify a top-three position and intensify the competition for other teams.
“They put us under the pump in the powerplay early. There was a bit of purchase on offer. Boys dragged it back in the middle. Have been playing good cricket throughout. We knew winning today would put us in a good position for the top three and potentially making it tough for the others,” Zampa said.
The Oval Invincibles have secured their spot in the top three. Jordan Cox played a crucial role with 61 runs off 30 balls, featuring nine fours and two sixes. His innings applied significant pressure on the bowlers following Will Jacks’ early departure. The London Spirit couldn’t recover, as the Oval Invincibles chased down the target with 37 balls remaining.
