West Indies’ dynamic all-rounder, Andre Russell, was in full swing with the bat during the clash between the San Francisco Unicorns and Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket (MLC) at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas this Monday (8th July).
Representing the Los Angeles Knight Riders, Russell delivered a remarkable innings that ensured a competitive total for his side. His mastery with the bat was evident, particularly in the latter stages of the innings, where he showcased his formidable power-hitting skills.
Facing a challenging situation with the Los Angeles Knight Riders struggling at 96/5, Russell rose to the occasion with a spirited counter-attack against the San Francisco Unicorns’ bowlers. His aggressive display included 2 boundaries and 3 towering sixes, providing the Los Angeles Knight Riders with a significant boost to reach a total of 165 runs, a formidable score that appeared improbable at one stage.
Despite Russell’s heroic effort, San Francisco Unicorns secured a comfortable victory, driven by outstanding performances from Finn Allen (63) and Matthew Short (58). Their superb batting ensured a convincing 6-wicket win, achieved in less than 16 overs, overshadowing Russell’s impactful contribution in the match.

Following the defeat against San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders’ captain Sunil Narine acknowledged that his team fell short by 15-20 runs and missed opportunities to take early wickets. Despite the setback, Narine expressed optimism about their upcoming performances.In his post-match remarks, Narine commented:
“We had to take early wickets, 15-20 runs short. We could have taken early wickets but didn’t bowl well. We got 160 in two games so we aren’t too far from getting a big score. Just about batters digging deep. I back myself with my decisions. I didn’t work today, hopefully, they work in the next game,” he concluded.
