USA all-rounder Harmeet Singh believes that if his team can keep the game competitive until the final over of their forthcoming Group A encounter in the ongoing T20 World Cup, the pressure will be squarely on India.
According to USA all-rounder Harmeet Singh, the pressure will shift onto India if his team can maintain competitiveness until the final over of their upcoming Group A clash in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
In a stunning upset, the USA achieved the biggest victory of the ongoing World Cup by securing a narrow five-run win over the 2009 World Cup champions, Pakistan.
This victory marked a significant advancement in their pursuit of a top-two position in Group A, which includes India, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada. However, India poses a substantial obstacle in their path. The match is scheduled to take place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
India boasts an impeccable record at this venue, winning all three of their previous matches. In contrast, it will be unfamiliar territory for the USA. Harmeet suggested that another upset could be within reach if they can secure early wickets and maintain competitiveness until the final over.
“No expectations, the way the wicket is playing in New York it is uneven, I don’t see a very high-scoring game, When the game is not high-scoring we can make a comeback in the game. If we take a couple of wickets early and play well in the middle… as long as we are in the game till the last ball the pressure will always be on the bigger side who is playing against us. I think this will be the plan, staying in the game for 20 overs,” Harmeet told ANI.
Following their victory over India’s arch-rival, Pakistan, in Dallas, the USA team will be confident in their ability to cause another upset. When discussing the game, Harmeet emphasized that the differing form of both teams played a crucial role in their victory.
“We have been playing really well for the last few months. Our confidence level is very high. We knew Pakistan had recently lost two series and T20 is a format that works on momentum. When you lose, you keep on losing and you keep losing the key moments of the game.” he noted.
The USA effectively neutralized Pakistan’s attack during the power play, positioning themselves for a comfortable victory. However, Pakistan’s pacers disrupted their momentum by taking crucial wickets. Despite this setback, the USA remained poised for victory, needing a boundary on the final ball to secure the win. Harmeet expressed his belief that the game should not have reached the Super Over stage.
“It wasn’t a game that should have gone to Super Over. We made a couple of errors. We have a different matchwinner in every game. The team has a lot of potential and matchwinners, they can win you matches on their day and players are coming to their support,” Harmeet remarked.
The USA is set to take on India in a Group A encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
