Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli and pace sensation Arshdeep Singh shared a joyful moment celebrating with Bhangra after Team India’s victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados.
The final, held on June 29, saw India triumph over South Africa by seven runs, marking their first ICC trophy win in 11 years. The celebratory scenes captured the team’s emotional journey and resonated deeply with fans worldwide, leaving an indelible mark in cricket history.
Arshdeep Singh reminisces about the unforgettable Bhangra celebration with Virat Kohli following India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024.
After lifting the trophy, Indian stars celebrated exuberantly on the field. One heartwarming moment in Barbados captured Arshdeep dancing with Kohli to the tune of ‘Tunak Tunak’ after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, with the clip quickly going viral.
Known for his love of dance and bhangra, Kohli, a spirited Punjabi, often delights in showcasing his moves on the field. This time, alongside fellow Punjabi Arshdeep, they lit up the ground with their energetic bhangra to the iconic Bappi Lahiri song ‘Tunak Tunak’.
Reflecting on the occasion, Arshdeep Singh recalled their lively bhangra session with Kohli after the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados. He also revealed why Jasprit Bumrah, another Punjabi, did not join in the dance festivities.
It’s very rare to see Jasprit Bumrah’s emotion: Arshdeep Singh
The young pacer noted that Bumrah isn’t your typical Punjabi; he rarely shows his emotions. However, after the final, Bumrah was visibly moved and teared up while embracing his wife Sanjana Ganesan—a side of him that Arshdeep had never seen before.
Arshdeep also expressed his enjoyment in doing bhangra with Kohli, highlighting their shared Punjabi heritage. He mentioned that the DJ played the perfect song, and in the moment of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, they spontaneously broke into bhangra and had a great time. Arshdeep also spoke about his bond with Kohli, revealing their connection through their Punjabi roots.
Arshdeep Singh was quoted as saying by The Indian Express: “It’s very rare to see Jassi bhai’s emotion. But after the win, he was also very emotional. His family was with him. He is not expressive when you compare him with a typical Punjabi. He expressed a lot after the win and it was good to see.
Usually, he has a straight face whether he takes a wicket or delivers yorkers. It was different to see him expressing his emotions. The bond with Virat bhai has always been great. Same Punjabi culture, he also loves to shake his leg. The DJ was playing a perfect song (I can’t remember it now), the timing was perfect and we started doing bhangra.”
