Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki, who have been integral figures with Gujarat Titans since the team’s inception in 2022, are expected to depart from their roles ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League season. Nehra, the head coach, and Solanki, the Director of Cricket, played pivotal roles in the team’s early successes, including winning the inaugural season and reaching the final again in 2023.
Sources indicate that Yuvraj Singh’s name is being considered to join Gujarat Titans’ coaching staff, although a final decision has yet to be reached. With Gary Kirsten, the team’s mentor, already moving on to a full-time position with the Pakistan cricket team, significant changes are anticipated in the franchise’s backroom staff for the upcoming season.
“Lot of changes on the cards. Ashish Nehra and Vikram Solanki are highly likely to move on and discussions around Yuvraj Singh have already begun. Nothing is finalised right now but there could be some major changes in the coaching staff of the Gujarat Titans,” says a source close to developments.
Aashish Kapoor, Naeem Amin, Narender Negi, and Mithun Manhas, who are also part of the coaching setup, may be considering opportunities with other teams as well. Gujarat Titans had a remarkable start to their IPL journey, clinching one title and reaching another final. However, their fortunes took a downturn in 2024, finishing in eighth place under the captaincy of Shubman Gill.
The departure of Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians disrupted their team balance, and the absence of Mohammed Shami due to injury further compounded their challenges. The upcoming weeks promise to be pivotal for Gujarat Titans as they finalize their coaching staff amid these developments.
Rahul Dravid on the move
Rahul Dravid, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, is poised to make a return to the Rajasthan Royals fold as their head coach. Dravid has a rich history with RR, having not only played for the franchise but also served as their mentor during the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
Following his stint with RR, Dravid embarked on a distinguished coaching career that began with mentoring India’s U-19 and A sides, then transitioning to a pivotal role at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), culminating in his tenure as head coach of the senior national team. His tenure as head coach concluded on a high note with India clinching the 2024 T20 World Cup title under his guidance.
