Babar Azam will return to action for Pakistan on Wednesday (August 21) after more than two months, leading the team under Shan Masood in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. In this match, the 29-year-old Babar has the opportunity to make history by becoming the first Pakistani and third batter globally to achieve 4,000 runs across all three formats of the game.
Since making his international debut for Pakistan in an ODI against Zimbabwe on May 31, 2015, Babar has accumulated 3,898 runs in 52 Tests. He requires just 102 more runs to reach the 4,000-run milestone in Test cricket.
He has accumulated 5,729 runs in 117 ODIs and 4,145 runs in 123 T20Is for Pakistan.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli was the first player globally to reach 4,000 runs in all three formats, achieving this milestone during the T20 World Cup 2022 semifinal against England in Adelaide on November 10. The 35-year-old has tallied 8,848 runs in Tests, 13,906 in ODIs, and 4,188 in T20Is.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma also joined this elite group during the T20 World Cup 2024 match between India and Ireland in New York on June 5. Rohit has amassed 4,137 runs in 59 Tests, 10,866 runs in 265 ODIs, and 4,231 runs in 159 T20Is.
