Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan are reportedly set to depart after the conclusion of India’s matches in the United States during the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Currently, Team India is competing in the USA for their group stage matches of the tournament, all of which were scheduled to occur there. The team has already played three games at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, with their final match set to take place at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida.
Following the game against Canada on Saturday, June 15, in Florida, the team will head to the Caribbean for the Super 8s. As per a report by Cricbuzz, both Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan will return home after the conclusion of the final group match. Although not part of the primary squad, they serve as reserves.
The report also mentions that both players were present in Florida on Thursday, having traveled with the team from New York to Fort Lauderdale via a chartered flight on Wednesday. They were included in the squad as backups in case of any unforeseen injuries.
Their presence with the team in the USA was to ensure immediate reinforcements were available, considering the logistical challenges of sending replacements from India to the US or the Caribbean in the event of unexpected injuries. Meanwhile, the other reserve players, Rinku Singh and Khaleel Ahmed, are expected to remain with the squad and travel to Bridgetown, Barbados, for the first Super 8 game.
India secures place in Super 8s:
Team India has clinched a spot in the Super 8s after winning their initial three matches in the tournament. They kicked off their campaign with an eight-wicket victory against Ireland, followed by a tense six-run win against arch-rivals Pakistan. In their third match, India defeated the USA by seven wickets, becoming the first team from Group A to progress to the Super 8s.
