IPL 2024: Canadian Grammy-winning rapper Drake has wagered on KKR to secure victory in the IPL final against SRH on May 26, marking his debut bet in cricket. In addition to his numerous chart-topping hits, Drake is well-known for making high-stakes bets across various sports.
Multiple Grammy-winning Canadian rapper Drake has placed a $250,000 bet on KKR to win the IPL 2024 Final against SRH on May 26. Known for his high-stakes bets on various sports such as basketball, American football, and rugby, this marks Drake’s first-ever cricket bet. The 37-year-old artist shared a screenshot of his bet receipt on his official Instagram story, further heightening the excitement surrounding the IPL 2024 final.
After SRH secured a decisive 36-run victory over RR in Qualifier 2 on May 24, the Pat Cummins-led team set up a rematch against KKR, their Qualifier 1 opponents, in the Final. Since becoming the brand ambassador for the online cryptocurrency casino Stake.com, Drake has frequently made headlines in the pop-culture world with his enormous bets. However, his luck with sports wagers hasn’t been great. Notably, Drake lost a $2 million bet on a UFC middleweight fight in 2022, where he backed Israel Adesanya, who was defeated by Alex Pereira via technical knockout.
Yet, Drake has turned the tide, experiencing a stroke of luck with his recent victorious wager on the Kansas City Chiefs triumphing in the 2024 Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers.
KKR’s favorable track record against SRH
In IPL 2024, KKR holds a notable advantage in their matchups against SRH. Led by Shreyas Iyer, KKR secured victories in both of their group stage encounters with SRH and further triumphed by 8 wickets in Qualifier 2. While Cummins’s squad has earned recognition for their batting prowess this IPL season, players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen have struggled against KKR’s bowling unit.
Despite setting the record for the highest-ever total in IPL history with their 287 runs against RCB, SRH could only manage scores of 204, 166, and 159 against KKR, which doesn’t bode well for Cummins’s side. Nevertheless, anticipation among Indian cricket fans for an exciting final remains remarkably high.
