On Tuesday, May 28, the iconic Burj Khalifa in Dubai adorned itself in shades of purple, shining a spotlight on Kolkata Knight Riders’ triumph in the just-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). Co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, the team secured its third IPL title with an impressive victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium last Sunday. In honor of this remarkable feat, the Burj Khalifa illuminated the night sky with KKR’s colors, echoing the jubilation of cricket fans in Dubai as they celebrated the newly crowned IPL champions.
A video featuring the wonderful moment was dropped by the Kolkata-based franchise on Instagram. The caption of the post read, “View from the top. It’s all PURPLE.” The light and sound show on the Burj Khalifa building started with a picture of the champion Kolkata Knight Riders squad. Shah Rukh Khan also featured in the segment as a message read, “Congratulations KKR. Congratulations SRK.”

Shah Rukh Khan’s manager Pooja Dadlani also dropped a clip of the Burj Khalifa adorned with the iconic Purple and Gold colours of Kolkata Knight Riders. “This is just so special. Thank you so much Emaar Dubai and Burj Khalifa for all that you do.”
The connection between Shah Rukh Khan and the community in Dubai has been remarkable. In the past year, when the Bollywood icon returned to the big screen with a triumphant comeback featuring three consecutive films – Pathan, Jawan, and Dunki – their trailers were prominently showcased on the Burj Khalifa. Prior to the release of Jawan, a special event took place in Dubai, where SRK delighted the audience with his captivating dance moves, further strengthening his bond with fans in the city.
After KKR became the champions of the 2024 IPL, Shahs Rukh Khan thanked all the squad members in an emotional dressing room speech. He said, “Wherever we go ahead from here onwards, I wish you the best. And, I know, I speak on behalf of Jay, Juhi, Jahnavi, Suhana, Pooja, all of us, who love you so much that you make us very emotional. And, we wish we had this team for the rest of our lives. And you kept on listening to my speeches and playing like this.”
Accompanied by his family, Shah Rukh Khan was present at Chepauk to witness the IPL 2024 final and support his team, Kolkata Knight Riders. Following KKR’s impressive victory over SRH by eight wickets in the summit clash, Khan joined the players in the celebratory victory lap.
