After New Zealand’s disappointing 13-run loss to West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2024, captain Kane Williamson acknowledged the team’s need for improvement. Williamson himself had a lackluster performance during the run chase, managing only 1 run from 2 balls before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie in the seventh over.
Addressing the press post-match, Williamson emphasized that they couldn’t attribute their performance solely to the pitch conditions at the Brian Lara Stadium. He stressed the importance of finding solutions and bouncing back. Additionally, the Kiwi skipper highlighted the need to analyze their mistakes, regroup, and prepare for their upcoming match.
“Conditions here are what they are and we can’t make excuses. We need to keep getting better and keep finding a way, 10-15 runs that can make a big difference. We need to bounce back quickly, we are back in two days, we need to be smarter. The learnings are important and we need to pick ourselves up and go again,” Williamson said.
