As the Indian cricket team faces off against the United States in their Group A match of the T20 World Cup 2024, it marks a special occasion for several reasons. For players of Indian descent on the American team, it’s a chance to reconnect with former colleagues. Additionally, there’s a unique reunion happening among former teammates from the Indian Premier League, albeit now competing against each other.
In anticipation of the match against India, Corey Anderson, who previously played for New Zealand and now represents the USA, reminisced about his time with the Mumbai Indians. Anderson recalled witnessing the early days of Jasprit Bumrah’s career, noting how the talented bowler has evolved since his time at the Mumbai Indians. Anderson also expressed his admiration for Bumrah, revealing a fondness for the Indian cricket star.
“I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Bumrah. I think I was at Mumbai when he was first introduced to MI, and watching him develop from this raw natural talent to one of the best bowlers in the world has been amazing. It’s cool to see that progress throughout because you see the things they talk about early in their careers, and how they gain experience,” Anderson said.
Anderson expressed his delight in witnessing Jasprit Bumrah’s evolution into a formidable force in Indian cricket. He believes that Bumrah has the potential to make a significant impact in their upcoming match, but Anderson is eagerly anticipating the challenge that lies ahead in the contest between their respective teams.
“To watch him reach his potential is awesome. We’re obviously going to come up against him, and he can do some serious damage. I think it’s going to be extremely exciting to face him as well.” Anderson added.
India and the USA are set to face each other in the Group A fixture, with both teams securing victories in their previous matches. India triumphed over Ireland and Pakistan, while the USA claimed victories against Pakistan and Canada. The co-hosts have emerged as unexpected contenders in the tournament and may have their sights set on advancing to the Super 8 stage.
