Australia’s T20 World Cup 2024 journey ended in disappointment as Afghanistan secured an eight-run victory (DLS method) over Bangladesh on Tuesday. This outcome not only propelled Afghanistan into the semi-finals but also marked a devastating exit for Australia from the tournament. For David Warner, the defeat signaled the conclusion of his illustrious 15-year international career.
While Warner has yet to formally announce his retirement, he had previously indicated that the T20 World Cup 2024 would mark his final appearance on the international stage. Yuvraj Singh, Warner’s former teammate at Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has now responded to the news of Warner’s retirement with a touching message.
“No one likes a quiet goodbye, but that’s the game of life mate. Well done on an incredible career David Warner! From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true Warner style. A feared batsman, a lively teammate and a true entertainer on and off the field. It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family,” India’s World Cup-winning former all-rounder posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Fans took to the comments section to express their adoration and support for David Warner. The flood of congratulatory messages and well-wishes underscored their appreciation for the cricketer.
David Warner’s last appearance in ODIs was during the World Cup final against India in November 2023. Despite this, he expressed his intention to make a comeback for Australia in the upcoming Champions Trophy. His final Test match was earlier this year in January against Pakistan.
