Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik lauded T20I specialists Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh following India’s 3-0 clean sweep over Sri Lanka in the T20I series. Karthik highlighted that both Yadav and Singh are emerging stars for the Indian national cricket team.
Yadav, in his debut as India’s full-time T20I captain, led the team to a flawless 3-0 series victory. His leadership and performance were instrumental in the team’s success, earning him the “Player of the Match” accolade for his contributions both as a player and a captain.
Despite their impressive performances in the T20I series, Yadav and Rinku were not selected for the ODI series that followed. The ODI squad saw the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli after a break post the T20 World Cup 2024, where India clinched the championship.
They’re Going To Do Some Really Special For India – Dinesh Karthik
On Cricbuzz’s “Hey CB with DK,” a fan posed a question to Dinesh Karthik about who he sees as the modern-day equivalents of Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in T20 cricket, drawing a comparison to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, whom the fan likened to Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
Karthik responded by identifying Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh as the T20 counterparts to Ranbir and Ranveer. He remarked that both Yadav and Singh are on the verge of achieving something truly remarkable for the Indian cricket team.
“If Rohit and Kohli are SRK and Salman of T20s, who are Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh right now,” a fan asked.
“I’m going to go with Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh. I think they’re going to do something really special for Indian cricket and superstars in the making,” Karthik replied in a video shared by Cricbuzz on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Suryakumar Yadav amassed 92 runs across three matches, averaging 30.67 with an impressive strike rate of 195.74, and registered a top score of 58. In addition to his batting, the Indian T20I captain also claimed two wickets in the final game of the series. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh struggled with the bat, managing only two runs across two innings.
In the final T20I on July 30 in Pallekele, the pair each took two wickets while defending a total of 137 runs. Despite Sri Lanka’s strong position, needing only nine runs from the last two overs with six wickets in hand, Rinku limited the scoring to just three runs and took two pivotal wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Kusal Perera (46).
Suryakumar took the ball for the final over, with Sri Lanka requiring just six runs to win. He secured two more wickets, which led the match to a Super Over. In the Super Over, Washington Sundar gave away only two runs while taking two wickets. Suryakumar then clinched victory for India with a boundary on the first ball.
