Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal criticized the Babar Azam-led team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, agreeing with Michael Vaughan’s comments on the declining standards of Pakistan Cricket and the lack of fear they inspire in other teams.
The Pakistan Cricket Team has been making headlines for months, with Babar Azam recently being reinstated as captain. However, their performance has been lackluster as they prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024. They managed only a draw against a second-string New Zealand team and suffered an embarrassing loss to Ireland, despite winning the three-match series.
Their struggles continued in the ongoing T20I series against England. The first match was washed out, and in the second T20I, Pakistan was soundly defeated, failing to chase down 184 runs and getting bowled out for 160, falling 1-0 behind in the series.
Despite having a lineup full of star players, the team’s recent performances have been disappointing, raising concerns within their camp. With two matches left in the series, they still have a chance to improve. Michael Vaughan recently criticized the team, suggesting that England players should have prioritized the IPL over the series against Pakistan to gain experience in high-pressure situations, which would be beneficial for the World Cup. Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, he elaborated on his views.
“I think you’re going to miss the trick by sending all their players home. You know, I think Will Jacks, Phil Salt, Jos Butler, in particular, playing in the IPL in the eliminators, pressure, crowd, expectation. I would argue that playing here is better preparation than playing a T20 game against Pakistan.”
Kamran Akmal said We pick players on likes and dislikes.
Michael Vaughan’s remarks sparked backlash in Pakistan, with many criticizing the former England player for his comments. However, Kamran Akmal agreed with Vaughan, echoing his sentiments and criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Team.
Akmal stated that the quality of Pakistan Cricket has declined to the point where even teams like the United States of America and Ireland won’t be concerned about facing them in the T20 World Cup 2024. He shared his views on his YouTube channel, saying:
“I agree with Michael Vaughan, he is 100% right. The standard of Pakistan cricket has dropped so much that no team fears us. Even the USA & Ireland will not be worried about us. We pick players on likes and dislikes.”
The third match of the series between England and Pakistan, which will effectively serve as the decider, is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, May 28th, in Cardiff.
