Mitchell Marsh, poised to captain Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup, appears to be relishing his time in the Caribbean. The Australian all-rounder was recently sighted engaging in a laid-back conversation with an interviewer on a beach in the West Indies. Throughout the exchange, Marsh was asked if he had any “captain’s allowance” for alcohol.
The question shocked him a bit and he claimed to be unaware of such an allowance. The reason he said was Pat Cummins, Australia’s Test and ODI captain. “I didn’t realise captain’s allowance was an actual thing because I’ve never seen Patty’s. But I can say that is a thing and I will be spending it,” Marsh said.
Both Mitchell Marsh and the interviewer laughed at the hilarious answer from the Australia captain. “I don’t think he’s on his own Pat, not spending that too. Hearing from Tubby Taylor (Mark Taylor) and a few others,” the interviewer said. Marsh kind of agreed. “Yeah, there are a few tight captains over the journey,” Marsh said laughing.
The clip began with Mitchell Marsh being asked about the captain’s allowance and the perks it included. “You got the captain’s allowance, is that coming to the World Cup with you? And is that just strictly beer and wine or are you allowed spirits? Before Heady gets here of course,” the interviewer asked. Marsh had a hilarious response to the question saying, “Uh, whatever they want mate!”
Mitchell Marsh has a history of leading from the front, having previously captained the Australian U-19 team to victory in the 2010 World Cup. His current teammates, Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood, shared that triumph. Marsh was entrusted with the leadership role of the Australian T20I team in August last year during a tour of South Africa.
The upcoming T20 World Cup marks Marsh’s maiden major tournament as captain of the Australian side. With 54 T20I appearances under his belt, he has amassed 1432 runs and taken 17 wickets for his country.
While Australia boasts an impressive record of winning the ODI World Cup six times, their success in the T20 format has been limited, securing the title only once, in 2021. Nonetheless, they enter this year’s tournament as strong contenders, boasting a roster brimming with explosive talents.
