During the October 23, 2022 T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan in Melbourne, Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf was hit for two consecutive sixes by Indian cricketing icon Virat Kohli. With India needing 28 runs off eight balls, Kohli took charge and reduced the equation to 16 runs from the final six balls, swinging the match decisively in India’s favor.
Over 18 months later, a fan delivered a harsh reminder of that pivotal moment by asking Rauf if he still recalled the two sixes Kohli had struck against him.
In a viral video from an MLC match, while Haris Rauf was fielding near the boundary, a fan seized the moment to ask him, “Haris bhai Melbourne abhi bhi yaad aata hai? Virat ke 2 chakke, yaad hai? (Do you still remember Melbourne? Virat’s two sixes).”
In the 2022 T20 World Cup clash between India and Pakistan, Haris Rauf took key wickets of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, putting his team in a strong position. However, Virat Kohli’s consecutive sixes dashed Rauf’s hopes, and he ended the match with bowling figures of 4-0-36-2.
Virat Kohli, meanwhile, remained not out with a stellar 82 from 53 balls, guiding India to chase down the 160-run target and secure victory by four wickets.
Rauf vs India in 2024 T20 World Cup
Haris Rauf was also in action for Pakistan during their match against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. On June 9, at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, Rauf delivered a standout performance, taking three wickets for 21 runs in his three overs. His efforts helped restrict India to 119 runs. However, despite his impressive bowling, Pakistan was unable to chase down the 120-run target and lost the match by seven runs.
The 2024 T20 World Cup was a challenging tournament for Pakistan, as they not only lost to India but also faced defeat against the United States. These two losses in Group A matches ended Babar Azam’s team’s hopes of advancing to the Super 8s.
