Gautam Gambhir, India’s new head coach, is keen on recruiting former South African pacer Morne Morkel, citing his extensive international coaching experience, especially for the bowling coach role.
Morkel, who previously coached Pakistan during the ODI World Cup 2023 before resigning from his PCB contract, has a strong professional rapport with Gambhir. Their relationship developed during Morkel’s tenure with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL, where Gambhir served as mentor for two seasons.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, Gautam Gambhir has urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to evaluate Morne Morkel for the position of bowling coach. The report also mentioned that Morkel has engaged in discussions regarding the role.
“Gambhir is believed to have requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to consider Morkel for the position of bowling coach. Cricbuzz can confirm that some discussions have taken place with the South African, who is now settled in Australia,” a report by Cricbuzz said.
