Gautam Gambhir made a distinctive start to his role as the newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team by orchestrating an indoor session alongside the Indian selection committee. Termed “productive” by insiders, the meeting extended beyond an hour and saw Gambhir in deep deliberations with Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
According to reports from Cricbuzz, this significant session was conducted virtually, with Gambhir participating from his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon. The discussions primarily revolved around team selections and tactical plans for the imminent limited-overs series against Sri Lanka.
KL Rahul will captain the ODI team if Rohit Sharma opts out of the Sri Lanka tour.
During their discussions, Gambhir, Shah, and Agarkar also delved into the topic of Indian captain Rohit Sharma potentially returning for the upcoming three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka next month.
Currently enjoying a vacation in the US with his family, Rohit’s availability remains uncertain but pivotal, especially given the limited number of ODIs before the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Rohit is expected to convey his decision shortly regarding his availability for the ODI series, ahead of an upcoming online meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 17. However, should the Indian skipper opt to skip the Sri Lanka tour, KL Rahul is poised to lead the team in the ODI series, as per reports from Cricbuzz.
