Team India is set to resume action on Saturday (July 27) with the start of their three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. This series marks their first under new leadership, with Suryakumar Yadav taking on the role of captain and Gautam Gambhir stepping in as head coach.
Earlier this month, Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the new T20I captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma, who retired from the format after Indiaโs triumph in the T20 World Cup last month. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir took over from Rahul Dravid as head coach.
The Indian squad departed for Sri Lanka on July 22 and began their training the following day. On the eve of the series opener, the BCCI released a video from the team’s training session, showcasing several engaging moments between players and the coach.
One standout moment featured Gambhir, known for his reserved demeanor on the field, laughing heartily as the players enjoyed their training. Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya shared a touching moment of camaraderie. The overall mood within the team was notably high as they fine-tuned their preparations for the upcoming series.

The Indian team aims for a successful start under their new captain in the T20I series. This series will be their second challenge since their T20 World Cup victory. Previously, they faced Zimbabwe in a five-match T20I series. Most players from the World Cup squad will be returning to action for the first time since their win in Barbados.
Sri Lanka, starting as the underdogs, will look to capitalize on their home advantage. They too have a new T20I captain, with Charith Asalanka taking over from Wanindu Hasaranga following Sri Lanka’s disappointing T20 World Cup performance.
