Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as head coach of Team India began in stellar fashion. His debut series saw India dominate Sri Lanka comprehensively across all three T20Is. The Men in Blue started off with a commanding 43-run victory in the opening match, posting a formidable 213/7 before restricting Sri Lanka to 170.
In the second encounter, India sealed the series with a convincing 7-wicket win via the DLS method. After restricting Sri Lanka to 161/9, India efficiently chased down the revised target of 78 runs in under 7 overs.
The series concluded on Tuesday with a remarkable twist as India secured a thrilling victory in the third T20I to complete a clean sweep. Despite a challenging start that left them at 48 for 5, India recovered to reach a competitive total of 137/9. Sri Lanka matched this total, ending their innings at 137/8, leading to a dramatic Super Over where India emerged victorious.
Overall, Gambhir’s leadership at the helm showcased India’s resilience and tactical prowess, setting a promising tone for his tenure as head coach.

Following the conclusion of the T20I series, Gautam Gambhir swiftly transitioned his focus to the upcoming ODI series. Today, he convened with the five players who were not part of the T20I squad but are integral to the ODI campaign. This included captain Rohit Sharma, along with Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, and Shreyas Iyer.
All three ODIs are set to unfold in Colombo, with the series kicking off on August 2nd. This marks India’s inaugural ODI series of 2024, and they are eager to deliver a strong performance right from the outset.
