Former spinner Harbhajan Singh exudes confidence in Team India’s prospects in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. India has been formidable in the competition, remaining undefeated thus far and appearing poised to qualify for the semifinals.
In the group stage, India won three out of four matches, with one game abandoned due to wet conditions. Despite challenging batting environments, India secured victories over Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, with their bowlers excelling consistently.
In their first Super 8 match, led by Rohit Sharma, India displayed a commanding performance. Posting 181 for 8 batting first, anchored by Suryakumar Yadav’s impressive half-century, India overcame Afghanistan convincingly by bowling them out for 134, clinching a resounding 47-run victory.
Harbhajan Singh says Our team has shown exceptional form
Amid Team India’s strong performance in the T20 World Cup, Harbhajan Singh has showered praise on the squad and expressed confidence in their ability to break India’s prolonged World Cup title drought. The former spinner highlighted the collective efforts of every player, emphasizing their crucial contributions to India’s impressive campaign thus far. Singh believes that if the team maintains its current determination and form, they have a genuine chance of clinching the T20 World Cup title, which India last won in 2007.
“Our team has shown exceptional form in the T20 World Cup so far, with every player in the playing 11 contributing significantly. We have been playing our A-game ticking all the boxes. The boys are in great touch, and the confidence is high.
“If we continue to play with the same determination, intensity, and passion I do not doubt that we can get over the line and bring the World Cup home for the first time after 2007,” Harbhajan Singh said, as quoted by IANS, on Disney+ Hotstar.
Following their victory over Afghanistan in the first Super 8 match, Team India is set to face Bangladesh on Saturday, June 22, in their next encounter. A win against Bangladesh would almost certainly secure India’s spot in the semifinals.
India is determined to end their prolonged wait for an ICC trophy, having not won a World Cup in any format since 2011 and their last ICC trophy in 2013. After setbacks in the finals of the ODI World Cup and the World Test Championship last year, India is eager to clinch the ongoing T20 World Cup.
