India has unveiled their 15-player squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, taking place in the UAE from October 3. Harmanpreet Kaur will remain as captain, with Smriti Mandhana appointed as her vice-captain.
Originally slated to be hosted in Bangladesh, the tournament was moved to the UAE due to political unrest. The ninth edition of the T20I event will run from October 3 to October 20, culminating in the final on the latter date.
India has been placed in Group A for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, where they will face Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
In the opening positions, Smriti Mandhana will be joined by powerful hitter Shafali Verma, with Dayalan Hemalatha also providing a solid top-order option.
The middle-order features key players like Jemimah Rodrigues, captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh, who will serve as the primary wicketkeeper.
Yastika Bhatia is included as a backup wicketkeeper, but her participation is contingent on her fitness, as is the case with young spinner Shreyanka Patil, who has also been selected for the squad.
Pooja Vastrakar, Renuka Singh, and Arundhati Reddy will spearhead the pace attack, while Deepti Sharma, Asha Sobhana, and Radha Yadav will manage the spin department. Uma Chetry, Tanuja Kanwer, and Saima Thakor have been designated as traveling reserves.
