Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria criticized his compatriot and former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq for his recent remarks accusing India of ball tampering during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Kaneria expressed disapproval of Inzamam’s comments, particularly highlighting his own extensive experience playing cricket in the West Indies.
Meanwhile, the India National Cricket Team has been in outstanding form throughout the T20 World Cup 2024. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team has displayed dominance in the group stage, winning all their matches convincingly. Their stellar performance in the semifinal further solidified their spot in the final, maintaining an undefeated record thus far in the tournament.
India’s cricket team has delivered an outstanding display in the ongoing T20 World Cup, excelling both with bat and ball under challenging conditions. Their ability to handle pressure effectively was evident as they secured a spot in the semifinals following a crucial victory over Australia in their final league match.
However, headlines shifted after the match when former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq made serious allegations against Team India. He accused them of ball tampering, suggesting it played a significant role in Arshdeep Singh’s ability to achieve reverse swing during the death overs, which troubled Australia’s batsmen.
Following Rohit Sharma’s dismissal of the allegations, where he attributed the natural drying process of cricket balls on practice pitches during day games, Danish Kaneria has strongly criticized Inzamam-ul-Haq for his remarks. Kaneria emphasized that the drying of the ball occurs naturally under certain conditions and stressed that such comments were not fitting coming from a respected figure like Inzamam-ul-Haq. In an interview with Times Now, Kaneria expressed his dismay over the situation, underscoring the importance of thoughtful commentary from individuals of Inzamam’s stature.
“I think my captain played a lot of cricket and he played a lot of cricket in the West Indies. West Indies has a dry wicket and when we throw the ball in the field, because there are 2-3 wickets and it is dry and rough, so when one bounce comes, the ball automatically starts getting rough. So when we used to play there, the ball would automatically become rough for the fast bowler.
“But for such a big player, I don’t think it is right to say that he tampered with the ball. I don’t like it. I think whatever he did, everyone was clear about it. Rohit also said to the press conference, look at the conditions, where are you playing? It is so hot. It is humid. It is humid and the ball will get a little scuffed.”
Most of the morning matches were played by India-Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria further mentioned how the ball tends to reverse swing during the daytime. He highlighted that other teams are not able to do that because they are playing games at night. He elaborated:
“When you hit the ball on the wicket, the ball gets scuffed. When the ball gets scuffed, if you shine it from one side, it will automatically get reversed. It happens to all bowlers, not just one. In the other team as well, most of the morning matches were played by India.
“Most of the morning matches were played by India. The rest of the teams played at night. So it is very difficult to bowl at night. Because it is a little loose. But in the afternoon, it is so humid that the ball gets scuffed,” he concluded.
