India is gearing up for their final Group A match in the opening round of the T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in Florida against Canada. The clash is scheduled to happen at the Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill on June 15. However, the weather forecast for Florida casts a shadow of uncertainty, with rain potentially disrupting the game.
Recent days have seen severe thunderstorms battering various parts of the southern region of the state. Weather experts predict this pattern to persist for the next eight to ten days, raising concerns about its impact on the T20 World Cup fixtures.
In addition to India’s crucial match, two other Group A encounters—USA vs Ireland and Pakistan vs Ireland—are also on the cards in Florida this week. Footage depicting the harsh weather conditions in the state is circulating widely on social media platforms, further highlighting the potential challenges ahead.
Footage captured flooded areas in Miami, a coastal city in South Florida. Water seeped into the ground floors of many homes, while streets turned into rivers, forcing people to push cars through knee-deep water. The storm and heavy rain caused significant disruptions, leading to delays and cancellations of numerous flights at Miami International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
If any of the upcoming Group A matches in Florida are rained out, Pakistan’s chances of advancing in the T20 World Cup will be in jeopardy. So far, Pakistan has won one match in the opening round, losing to the USA and India before defeating Canada in a low-scoring game.
India has already secured their spot in the Super Eight by winning all three of their matches. Pakistan’s next match against Ireland is scheduled for June 16, coinciding with expected heavy rainfall. If this match is washed out, Pakistan will end with three points, allowing the USA to advance to the Super Eight as the second team from Group A.
