Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli recently sparked widespread concern on social media after a video showing him in a vulnerable state went viral. In the clip, Kambli is seen struggling to stand upright with the support of a motorcycle and requiring assistance from onlookers as he was helped into a building.
Kambli, who has faced health challenges over the years—including a heart attack in 2013 despite having undergone angioplasty—was understandably a subject of concern. Following the video’s circulation, Kambli’s friends reached out to check on his well-being. Recent updates reveal that Kambli spent time catching up with friends, including his school classmate Ricky and first-class umpire Marcus. He reassured them that the video was outdated and advised against taking it at face value.
“I am fine, don’t believe social media,” said Kambli to his friends during their recent meet.
In addition, Kambli also spoke with his former teammate and BCCI General Manager, Abey Kuruvilla, as well as the newly appointed MCA President, Ajinkya Naik.
“He was in a jolly mood when we met him. He is recovering well and is in much better condition. The video being circulated is outdated. He doesn’t have belly fat and eats his food well. The entire family was present and enjoying each other’s company. His son, Cristiano, also a left-hand batter like his father, was taking batting tips from his father,” Marcus was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.
Kambli shared a historic partnership with Tendulkar in youth cricket
Vinod Kambli, a notable figure in Indian cricket, gained prominence alongside Sachin Tendulkar after their record-breaking partnership in youth cricket. Over his career, the 52-year-old cricketer played 17 Test matches for India, amassing a total of 1,084 runs.
Kambli began his career with a strong performance, featuring in 104 ODIs where he accumulated 2,477 runs. However, his international career tapered off, and his Test career concluded when he was just 23 years old.
