The 2025 Champions Trophy has sparked controversy before even kicking off, with reports suggesting that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has refused to feature the host nation’s name, Pakistan, on the Indian team’s jerseys. This move has prompted the ICC to weigh in, stressing that all teams must adhere to the tournament’s official protocols.
Under ICC regulations, all teams are obligated to display the tournament logo, which prominently features the name of the host nation, on their jerseys. Although matches involving Team India will be held in Dubai due to security concerns, Pakistan remains the official host of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Reports suggest that the BCCI’s refusal to display Pakistan’s name stems from ongoing political tensions between the two nations.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied receiving any formal communication from the BCCI about the jersey issue. However, the PCB has urged the ICC to ensure that all teams are treated equally. The PCB has worked tirelessly to meet its hosting responsibilities, including securing the necessary clearances for Indian players and officials.
In the midst of this, there is growing uncertainty over whether Indian captain Rohit Sharma will attend the opening ceremony in Karachi. Traditionally, the ceremony features the captains of all participating teams, but the BCCI has yet to confirm whether Sharma will make the trip.
