Shakib Al Hasan, the former Bangladesh captain and key allrounder, has been fined 10 percent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a code of conduct violation during the recent Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan.
On Day 5 of the match, which Bangladesh won by 10 wickets, Shakib threw the ball at Pakistani batter Mohammad Rizwan in a moment of frustration. This occurred after Shakib had to abort his delivery when he saw that Rizwan was not yet ready, resulting in him throwing the ball over the batter’s head towards the wicketkeeper.
On-field umpire Richard Kettleborough addressed Shakib regarding the incident.
In addition to the match fee fine, Shakib has also been issued a demerit point for the offense.
As per an ICC release, the match referee penalised Shakib in accordance with “Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during an International Match.”
