Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins took the IPL trophy for a spin around Chennai, stopping for a photo op at the legendary Marina Beach just before the final showdown on Saturday, May 25th. KKR and SRH are set to clash at Chepauk Stadium on Sunday, May 26th, in what promises to be a thrilling final match. KKR aims for their third title while SRH eyes the opportunity to embellish their shirt logo with a second star. Finishing the league phase at the top two spots respectively, both teams are gearing up for an intense battle.
IPL shared a series of photographs featuring the captains of SRH and KKR at Marina Beach before the final match, and both appeared to be in good moods. The journey of KKR and SRH leading up to the final encounter
KKR and SRH kicked off their IPL 2024 journey with a nail-biting encounter at Eden Gardens. Kolkata clinched victory by a narrow margin of 4 runs against Hyderabad on March 23rd. Throughout the tournament, both teams have showcased their prowess in scoring big, with SRH setting a new record for the highest total in IPL history twice.
Meanwhile, KKR showcased their batting prowess by posting a formidable total of 272 against DC. Both teams demonstrated strong opening partnerships, with Sunil Narine/Phil Salt for KKR and Abhishek Sharma/Travis Head for SRH. Additionally, the bowling units of both sides have delivered consistently throughout the season.
KKR concluded the league phase with an impressive record of 9 wins and 3 losses, with 2 matches abandoned due to weather. On the other hand, SRH secured 8 victories and suffered 5 defeats, with one match abandoned. Kolkata advanced to the final after defeating Hyderabad in Qualifier 1 by 8 wickets.
As a result, SRH had to face RR in Qualifier 2, where they clinched victory through a stellar bowling display.
