Irfan Pathan believes that SRH captain Pat Cummins is his pick for the captain of the season as the IPL 2024 Final approaches against KKR. Cummins has made significant changes with the Hyderabad team this season.
Irfan Pathan has praised SRH captain Pat Cummins as the standout captain of the IPL 2024 season ahead of the final match against KKR in Chennai on Sunday, May 26. SRH acquired Cummins for 20.5 crores and entrusted him with the captaincy before the season began. The Australian fast bowler has dramatically turned the team’s fortunes around, leading them to their first final in six years.
In an interview with Star Sports before the IPL 2024 final, Pathan remarked that Cummins consistently takes on new roles in matches with the ball, demonstrating to his team that he embraces responsibilities without hesitation.
“If you look at Pat Cummins’ captaincy, he bowled with the new ball. He is actually sometimes come into the game where he hasn’t bowled in the first half of the game. He’s actually bowling in the second half of half of the game.”
“He has sometimes bowled the penultimate over. He has bowled last over as well. So when it comes to playing a different role as a leader and telling the team ‘Ok, without telling him the words he said, I’m gonna take the responsibility. I’m gonna do the tough job. I’m not gonna run away from all the responsibilities. You guys should do as well,” said Pathan.
Cummins has brought both his extensive experience and immense passion.
Pathan believes that Cummins has infused the IPL with his vast experience and wholehearted dedication, significantly aiding the young players in performing well for SRH.
“And this is the best thing about Pat Cummins. And this is why I have a question before the auction that how can he come here in this IPL where he has not done well, what can he do? He has actually brought all the experience and he’s got a big heart. When you have a big heart as a leader, all the youngsters come around as well. I really think he’s the captain of the season so far for me,” said Pathan.
Cummins has picked up 17 wickets this season from 15 matches.
