Pandya is expected to reunite with the Indian team just in time for the inaugural practice session.
Notably, Hardik Pandya, the star Indian all-rounder, was notably absent from the Indian squad that embarked on their journey to New York for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Among the recognizable faces spotted boarding the flight were Rohit Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and several other prominent players slated for the tournament.
However, Pandya was conspicuously missing from the group of players heading to New York. His absence raised eyebrows, especially considering his recent struggles during the IPL 2024 season, where he captained the Mumbai Indians to a disappointing campaign. Reports suggest that the talented all-rounder has been grappling with personal challenges, exacerbated by rumors circulating about his alleged separation from wife Natasa Stankovic.
In addition, reports indicate that Pandya has departed the country following the conclusion of the IPL and is presently enjoying a vacation at an undisclosed international destination. Intriguingly, Pandya is expected to rendezvous with the Indian team in New York ahead of the T20 World Cup’s inaugural practice session, according to Cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, the rest of the players including Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan, along with Rinku Singh, are scheduled to depart for New York at a later time.
Kohli has requested approval from the BCCI to join the squad at a later stage.
Star Indian batsman Virat Kohli was notably absent from the initial group of players departing for New York, as the 35-year-old requested permission from the BCCI to extend his break following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s exit from the 17th season.
With the Indian team now in New York, Rohit Sharma’s squad is set to play a warm-up match against Bangladesh before commencing their campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 with a match against Ireland. Their clash against Ireland is scheduled for June 5 in New York, followed by the much-anticipated encounter against Pakistan on June 9 at the same venue.
Notably, India finds themselves in Group A for the league stage, alongside Pakistan, the USA, Canada, and Ireland. After facing Ireland and Pakistan, India will play against the USA on June 12, followed by their final group match against Canada on June 15.
