Jasprit Bumrah, a key fast bowler for both the Indian cricket team and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL, has achieved numerous notable dismissals. Recently, he revealed that his favorite wicket in his distinguished career was that of a former Indian captain.
Over recent years, Bumrah has been a crucial player for India, contributing significantly to their success across all formats. Notably, he was instrumental in India’s triumph in the T20 World Cup 2024, where they defeated South Africa in the final held in Barbados on June 29.
The 30-year-old showcased his bowling prowess throughout the World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA). He was rewarded with “Player of the Match” for his outstanding bowling efforts. The pacer secured 15 wickets in eight innings at an average of 8.27 and an economy rate of 4.18.
On the Indian Express Adda show, Jasprit Bumrah revealed that his favorite wicket was Virat Kohli’s from his debut match with the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Bumrah mentioned that taking Kohli’s wicket was particularly meaningful as he was then working to establish his place at that level.
“I think I will take Virat Kohli. I was a 19-year-old kid, still convincing myself that I belong here,” Bumrah said.
Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru. The right-arm pacer trapped Virat Kohli, who scored 24 runs, with a sharp in-swinger. It was his first wicket in the Indian Premier League. He ended the match with 3 wickets for 32 runs, but the MI team lost by two runs.
Bowlers Are The Smart People – Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah opened up about fast bowlers not leading the teams in international cricket. Bumrah pointed out that bowlers are smart people, as they constantly plot dismissals in challenging conditions. He acknowledged that the decision to make a bowler captain was beyond his control.
“That is something that I don’t decide. I cannot go to the team and say now you have to make me captain. I don’t have that much power and it is above my pay grade. But I feel the bowlers are the smart people because they have to get the batsmen out and we are always fighting the odds because the grounds are shorter, the bats are better, I don’t remember any article or any technology coming that okay, we are helping the bowlers to swing the ball a lot more.”
The Gujarat cricketer last played in the T20 World Cup 2024 final. The leading Indian pace bowler was rested for the recent Zimbabwe tour and was also left out of the white-ball squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, starting on Saturday, July 27.
