Former Pakistan batsman Shoaib Malik lauded Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah, likening him to the Virat Kohli of bowling. Bumrah, currently competing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies, showcased his skills at Kensington Oval in Barbados recently. India convincingly defeated Afghanistan by over 40 runs in their opening Super 8 match led by captain Rohit Sharma.
Next, Team India will face Bangladesh and arch-rivals Australia in their remaining Super 8 fixtures on June 22nd and 24th respectively. A victory against Bangladesh would secure their spot in the semifinals, but their biggest challenge lies in the clash against Australia, who dominated Bangladesh earlier.
Ahead of the crucial encounter against Australia, Shoaib Malik emphasized Bumrah’s importance, highlighting the need for key players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Bumrah to perform collectively for India’s success.
Speaking to Ten Sports recently, Shoaib Malik praised Jasprit Bumrah’s consistent performance since his debut. Malik likened Bumrah to the Virat Kohli of bowling, highlighting his ability to influence games during challenging moments, much like Kohli does for India.
Malik emphasized Bumrah’s versatility, noting his capability to excel in all types of conditions—a rare skill in cricket. He commended Bumrah’s proficiency with both new and old balls, describing it as a unique trait that sets him apart as a complete bowler.
“See, like Virat has performed over the years and has helped in winning matches, I would say (Jasprit) Bumrah is the Virat of bowling. All of us keep talking about his exclusive skill to be able to bowl well in every condition. With the new, old as well as semi-new ball, has got a good slower ball, I mean he is a complete bowler.” – Malik told Ten Sports.
The ex-Pakistan cricketer also noted that Jasprit Bumrah consistently delivers across all formats, emphasizing Rohit Sharma’s admiration for him. Shoaib Malik pointed out that while other teams have consistent bowlers, Bumrah stands out for his peak performances in major tournaments.
“Not just about this format but we talk about all three formats, he is spot on. Rohit Sharma was praising him in the post-match ceremony. There are bowlers in other teams who are consistent but he is the type of bowler who never goes out of form in major tournaments, he is always in form. He doesn’t get thrashed by batters and he is someone who excels in every situation, and condition.” – Shoaib Malik concluded.
