Watch KL Rahul’s hilarious reaction:
KL Rahul came up with a hilarious response to a wide call from the umpire in the ongoing first ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The incident took place in the 14th over of the Sri Lanka innings when allrounder Shivam Dube was bowling to opener Pathum Nissanka. On the fourth ball of the over, Dube bowled one that went down the leg side. Nissanka missed the glance as the ball went straight to wicketkeeper KL Rahul.
With the ball passing very close to the batsman, Dube thought he had his man. The India allrounder heard a sound as well and was convinced that Nissanka had edged the ball. However, the other Indian players including Rahul were not convinced.
In the meantime, the umpire signaled a wide as the Indian players were busy discussing whether to take a review or not. And as the discussion was on, KL Rahul hilariously asked his teammates if the IPL rule of reviewing wide balls is allowed in international cricket as well.
“IPL wala rule hai kya? (Is the IPL rule applicable?)” asked KL Rahul. In 2023, IPL introduced a new rule that allows the teams to review wide and no-ball decisions using DRS. However, the rule is not available in international cricket. Replays later showed that the ball had missed the bat but touched the thigh pad on its way to the wicketkeeper.
