Indian cricket team’s star wrist-spinner, Kuldeep Yadav, recently expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma’s exceptional captaincy during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, dedicating the prestigious cup to the hitman.
Kuldeep praised Rohit’s strategic planning and deep affection for the Indian team, highlighting their crucial role in the historic T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the USA and West Indies. He mentioned that Rohit emphasized intent and a proactive approach during team meetings and consistently implemented them on the field throughout the tournament.
This World Cup was for Rohit Sharma: Kuldeep Yadav
By leading from the front, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma set an inspiring example for the team, motivating them to perform at their best, Kuldeep Yadav shared. The wrist-spinner emphasized that the T20 World Cup 2024 victory reflects Sharma’s leadership, vision, and dedication. Despite not playing in the USA leg, Kuldeep praised Sharma’s blend of tactical acumen and passion for the game throughout the tournament.
Kuldeep, who played a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup triumph by taking 10 wickets in five matches in the Caribbean, lauded Sharma’s ability to combine strategy with enthusiasm, which significantly impacted their success.
Kuldeep Yadav told Sports Today: “This World Cup was for him, the way he planned and the way he loved this team. The intent and approach that he used to talk about in team meetings, he implemented that in the tournament while batting, led from the front. So, this trophy is for him.”
Sharing his thoughts on Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja’s retirement from T20Is, Kuldeep noted: “There is probably no better feeling than this. In the final Virat bhai hit the 70-odd runs, won the player of the match. I am sure he will be very happy with his career in the T20 format, same for Rohit bhai. Jadeja as well, he played such brilliant cricket over the years.”
I’ll never forget the celebration in Mumbai: Kuldeep Yadav
Meanwhile, Team India was stranded in Barbados for a few days after the T20 World Cup 2024 final due to Hurricane Beryl. Upon their return to India, the players received an unforgettable welcome with celebrations in Delhi and Mumbai.
First, they met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Then they traveled to Mumbai for a victory parade and felicitation ceremony. The parade began at the iconic Marine Drive and concluded at Wankhede Stadium, where the BCCI held a ceremony for the T20 World Cup heroes on July 4.
The most remarkable aspect was the enormous crowd that gathered along Marine Drive long before the parade started. Kuldeep mentioned that the turnout exceeded his imagination.
What is usually a 10-minute drive from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium took over an hour and a half for the open-top bus to navigate due to the massive crowd celebrating India’s T20 World Cup triumph.
Kuldeep signed off by saying, “I’ll never forget it. It was the first time I experienced something like that. Rohit bhai probably experienced that earlier as he had won in 2007. What happened in Mumbai was just unreal for me.”
