The IPL 2025 auction looms large, promising a significant reshuffle of team line-ups due to its mega status. Scheduled between December and February, this event will introduce many new faces and high-profile signings across all franchises. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), despite an impressive turnaround last season where they reached the playoffs after a dismal start, are poised for substantial changes.
While RCB showcased consistent performances in recent IPL seasons, they have yet to clinch the championship. As they prepare for the IPL 2025 auction, RCB is expected to part ways with several players from their current roster. Here, we delve into three players who are likely to be released by RCB ahead of this crucial auction.
3 players who will be released by RCB ahead of IPL 2025 auction
1. Dinesh Karthik –
Dinesh Karthik, a stalwart wicketkeeper-batsman for RCB, has officially retired from all forms of cricket post IPL 2024. His memorable season saw him amass 326 runs in 13 innings, featuring four unbeaten performances, all at a blistering strike rate exceeding 187.
While Karthik encountered challenges during the 2023 season, his standout performances in 2022 prompted RCB to acquire him in a mega auction. With his retirement, RCB now faces the task of finding a successor who can match his impactful contributions behind the stumps and with the bat.
2. Anuj Rawat-
Anuj Rawat, known for his occasional brilliance with the bat for RCB, has faced challenges in his role as an opener. This struggle prompted Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli to step into the opening slots during IPL 2024. Rawat, a left-handed batter, managed only 98 runs across five games in the season, potentially placing his position in jeopardy for IPL 2025. The franchise might consider parting ways with him as they strategize for the upcoming season.
3. Mahipal Lomror-
Mahipal Lomror, a left-handed batsman, is the first player in question. Despite being acquired for Rs. 95 lakh in the IPL 2022 mega auction by RCB, Lomror managed just 125 runs in 10 games during the 2024 season.
His inconsistency in scoring runs since joining RCB has led the franchise to decide to release him from the squad.
