Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana has confidently predicted that the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side will emerge victorious in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Despite uncertainty about his own future with the franchise, Pathirana remains optimistic about CSK’s success.
Pathirana, a key player for the Chennai Super Kings in recent seasons, is renowned for his prowess with the ball, especially in the death overs. Known affectionately as Baby Malinga, the Sri Lankan pacer has been instrumental in CSK’s bowling lineup, consistently delivering pinpoint yorkers and crucial wickets in the latter stages of matches.
Since joining the Chennai Super Kings in 2022, Pathirana has become a vital component of the team. His contributions were particularly notable during the 2023 IPL season, where he played a significant role in the team’s title-winning campaign under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Pathirana’s performance that season was impressive; he took 19 wickets in 12 matches, boasting an average under 20 and an economy rate of 8.01. His ability to turn games around and deliver under pressure was a key factor in CSK’s success.
As the IPL 2025 approaches, speculation surrounds the upcoming mega auction and the number of players each franchise can retain. While Pathirana’s retention with CSK remains unclear, his confidence in the team’s ability to secure another title remains unshaken.
Speaking during an event, Matheesha Pathirana backed Chennai Super Kings to win the IPL 2024. He said: “I think (in) 2025, if I’ll be there or not, CSK will be champions.”
